Week 1

First week

As we proceed first week of the last year, we got lots of informations about FYP, RPO and presentation. I had to prepare a presentation for the next section and was informed of the contents that should be included in the presentation.

The first thing I had to prepare was a presentation on how I would develop my current research topic and lead it to the FYP. Since the main topic of my research topic from year 2, 'An exploration of the fundamental differences between universal signs and cultural symbols,' which I conducted last semester, was about 'Symbol,' I chose this as a starting point.

Also, since I had always been interested in web environments and coding, I wanted to connect this with my research topics, so I started with the topic of symbol convertibility in web environments. Since this is the opening of the project, I wanted to start with a topic as broad as possible and narrow it down by the end of this semester.

Before this semester started, I didn't apply for an internship, but since I had little knowledge of code, I did research for my final year project that would be done using codes such as HTML and CSS. Also, while doing research, I encountered interesting web design projects and was inspired by projects that I could create using code. This meant that I would encounter new technical problems, but it gave me a starting point to create my own web environment. I also had a great interest in interactive and generative web sites, so I think solving technical problems like these will be my next problem.

This website archives the history of various websites such as 'google', 'apple', and 'youtube'. I was able to observe here that the changes in various websites over the years have been slow. Since my topic is 'symbol in website' and I wanted to create an experimental web environment, I aimed to showcase the history of different websites as a case study of the persistence of monotonous layouts.

I created a presentation based on various research findings and books I read. I know there are still a lot of things to be solved, such as the scope of the topic being too broad and the need for precise focus, but I still don't know how and in what direction to approach the FYP. After receiving feedback following the presentation on Tuesday, I decided to take a very 'specific direction'.
