RPO feedback _ dissertation session
There was an vague part in the RPO I wrote last time, and I had to answer more
clearly because it was not a sufficient answer. I think it felt vague because it
only briefly mentioned what to do and did not seem to mention 'how' to do it
sufficiently.
"This research aims to find ways of browsing for
information on websites, in
particular how users navigate beyond the rectangular, flat layout to access
their own desired information. Overall this research will not only provide
insight
about
user centred navigation methods by analysing how websites embody non linear
navigation but also exploring limitations of squared flat web layout.
Throughout
this process, it gives valuable ideas for future website format."
This is the part that received feedback that it was vague.
After receiving feedback to prepare a clear answer for this part, I felt like I was
lacking in which parts to design, what the current website's problems are, and if
there are any, how to solve them.
I was also asked why I should change the layout when the current website is functional enough. To answer this question, I thought about the topic with some research, such as Wikipedia and Google, which are functional and efficient, but they make it hard for users to expand connections between a linear way. And also Hypertext lacks a visual presentation of the connections between topics. I thought My further research should focuses on addressing these gaps by proposing new ways to visualise relationships and navigate information spaces.
The reason I first started this project was because I was simply interested in 'web design' and was also interested in 3D works, so the intention was to put the layout in the 3D space. And I think the current web layout is uniform and accessible to users, but I personally thought it was not good to use uniform layout in design. I thought it was important to create a more aesthetic and experimental layout in design because it is the programmer's domain to create a functional layout or program. In addition, it was decided to create a prototype by considering the part of 'Digian' within this project more carefully.
With these goals, I decided to focus on two major projects.
1. Navigation Beyond Scroll and Mouse: Exploring alternative navigation devices (e.g., using Arduino) to give users more control and autonomy over their browsing experience.
2.3D Layouts for Visualizing Relationships: Using 3D models to provide spatial orientation and better visualize how topics interrelate, improving memory retention and comprehension."
Experiment
Last time, I used a Wikipedia page, but this time, I wanted to include a webpage that I created myself in the 3D web work, so I planned to first create a webpage with visuals and content that I was inspired by.
So, I tried to express the structure that enables nonlineal access while maintaining the connection between information in 3D space. Photographs of various works and structures that I used as reference were placed in the ifframe content and placed in the space.
I tried to create visual connections between pieces of information and decided to continue our experiments to implement better navigation.
